Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards? If it's not listed below, please email and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Can I nominate someone to win an award?

No. Entrants have to submit examples of their work so must complete the entry form themselves. That said, if you know someone you think deserves an award, why not give them a nudge to enter?

How do I fill in the entry form?

There is  a Word form or a PDF - use whichever you prefer. You can either print it out, complete it by hand and scan it or download something like Acrobat Reader to fill in the PDF online. Then email, post or hand deliver it.

I'm a press officer/PR/comms pro. Can I enter?

Unfortunately these are not the awards you're looking for. The Kent Press & Broadcast Awards are open to any print, broadcast or online journalist whose audience is primarily in Kent.

What are the qualifying dates for examples of work?

Publication dates for all samples of work must be between 6 April 2019 and 24 April 2020.

When's the deadline for entries?

Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday 10 July 2020. (See question 4 regarding the eligibility period.)

Can I submit examples of work as hard copies?

Yes - absolutely! We have assumed that it will be easier for people to enter online but if that's not the case, please submit four copies of each sample of work, whether that be a single article or an entire magazine. As the office is closed at this time, please email us to arrange delivery of hard copies.

How can I submit large files?

Use something like WeTransfer or Dropbox – just remember to include a covering note so we know which entry they belong to.

I'm a photographer. Do images have to be in printed publications or can they be published online?

Either is fine, as long as the website is part of a media group (i.e. not your friend's blog!)

Do I have to submit a whole newspaper/magazine?

No. If you want to, you certainly can, but it's not a requirement. We know that back copies often don't exist and if you don't publish online, you may only be able to submit specific features or front pages etc. Do what you think will show the publication in the best possible light. If you want to submit hard copies, that's also fine (see question 6).

What do I submit to support 'Programme of the Year'?

You don't have to submit whole programmes but if you'd prefer to, you can submit three as samples of work. However, you may want to submit a showreel or highlights as one file and use the other two examples for images or supporting stats. As long as you don't submit more than three files, it's fine.
